A Nordic Yul was held on December 4
A Nordic Yul was held on December 4 at Norwegian diplomat Sunyi Soerstroenen’s home in Alexandria, VA, as a thank you for NoVA volunteers and other volunteers. Forty-one diplomats from 15 countries and 31 volunteers attended. Nordic diplomats from Norway: Sunyi and Eva; Sweden: Stephan, Eva Lena, and Milka; and Finland: Paivi, Minna and Ana Marjie organized and presented a beautiful wintry Nordic Jul celebration and cultural experience. They hosted a Scandinavian Christmas market, music, costumed performers dancing typical Scandinavian dances, Nordic foods and an authentic Glogg without mulled wine. Each Nordic country provided traditional Christmas drinks and finger foods. The cool setting amazed CED volunteers as it provided a chance to experience how a Norse winter festival would be at this time of the year. A festive bonfire was there to warm participants, along with hot coffee, tea and currant. It was a beautiful gesture of gratitude by these amazing Nordic diplomats for CED volunteers who work tirelessly to welcome and support them.
